Evaluation

In Tuesdays lesson, we were given the topic of 'colour' and sent out to shoot. Initially, I thought this would be a very easy task but found that the area was slightly lacking in colour. It was also quite difficult as it was a very dull day which made it so that the colours were not as bright and vibrant as they could have been, nevertheless, I still managed to collect a good range of images. I think that my best shots were the ones of plants as they were quite colourful. Below are two images I captured in Tuesday's session.

This is my favourite image from the shoot. I really like how the vibrancy and majority of colour is in the centre of the image as this helps to draw in the viewers eye and attract the audience to look at the image. I also like how the yellow is very vibrant as this helps the image to clearly portray the topic of colour.

This was another one of my favourite image. I really like the editing in it. I used photoshop to select and manipulate the colours. I like the vibrancy of the pink on the postbox and feel it compliments the black and white background well. I feel it is an eye-catching and attractive image.

This is my least favourite photograph from the shoot. It does show colour well as it shows the yellow and also the reds and greys in the bricks. However, I do not feel that the image has a purpose and lacks meaning. The image is also quite dull which doesn't make the image very appealing.

Idea Development

If I were to go out and shoot for the topic of 'colour' again, I would make sure I went out on a bright and sunny day. I think this would make it easier as the colours would be more vibrant and bright. I would also go to a more natural area to shoot so that I could get better shots. The college campus did not contain a lot of colour so it was hard to find places that were full of colour. If I were to shoot again, I would also try to be more imaginative and creative. The following images would inspire my work if I were to go out and shoot for the topic of 'colour' again. They would inspire me to look for more vibrant and striking colours to photograph and also to look for examples of where there are complimentary colours.

Colour - Straight Images

I chose this image as one of my favourite photographs as I really like the warm feel which is due to the reds and pinks. I also really like how these colours stand out against the other white flowers. In addition, I really like how details, such as water droplets, have been captured. For these images, I had the camera on auto-focus as this was one of my first shoots. 

I really like the vibrancy of the yellow in this image. The viewers eye is drawn to this part of the image because it is the brightest and most colourful part. I think the dull green background also helps in making the yellow flower the main focus point in the image. 

I really like this image as I feel that it portrays vibrant colours very well. I like how half the image is bright green while the other half is bright blue. I like the brightness of the colours as I feel that it adds interest to the photo and also makes the image more eye-catching and attractive to the audience.  

I like the vibrancy of the green in this photo as it adds a splash of colour to the image. I really like the contrast of the dull grey and bright green. I also like the yellow ball on top of the posts as it adds another colour to the image. This photo could also link into the line topic due to the black and white stripes on the posts and the road marking lines.

I like how, in this image, the colours that are on the sculpture are reflected. This has lead to the capture of many shades of blue, green and yellow. These range of shades look very effective against the grey background as they stand out and catch the eye more. Due to the greens and blues, this image creates quite a cold feeling. For this image, again, I had my camera on autofocus.

I really like this image because of the fact that the majority of it is in black and white. This makes your eye more drawn to the main focus of the image which is the umbrella. This image creates a very calm feel because it is quite symmetrical.

This is one of my favourite photographs because it contains so many vibrant colours. I also like how the colours are very close to each other so each colour stands out and catches your attention. I also like the fact that the photograph is in a lot of detail so you are able to see tiny grains of sugar on the sweets.

I really like this photograph as it contrasts a dark background with bright lights of colour. I also like the image as it shows perspective due to the lights being large on one side of the image and then small on the other side.

This photograph caught my attention due to the yellow and pink as they compliment each other as well as making each other stand out. As well as the colour, I really like the idea of the slightly blurred background as it draws attention to the shoes and makes them the focus point of the image.

This image has similar qualities to the first image, by which the black and white background makes the colour more prominent and in the case of this image, draws the viewers eye to the centre of the image. I also think the darker background makes the vibrant colours stand out very well.

This image is very effective in the presentation of colour as it only showcases a certain amount of colours, which are orange, yellow, blue and green. The fact that the colour in the image has been manipulated so that the background has a black and white filter also helps the colours to stand out and be eye-catching.

Colour Definitions

Colour - The property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects or emits light.

Saturation - The intensity of a colour, expressed as the degree to which it differs from white.

Muted colour - Muted colours are colours that are less intense and are colours that have been toned down using black or white.

Analogous colours - Three colours which are together in groups and next to each other on the colour wheel.

Complimentary colours - Pairs of colours that when combined, cancel each other out. They are usually opposite from each other on the colour wheel. 

Four Annotated Images

This photo is effective due to the swirls of colour on an otherwise very dull background. The colours are very bright and striking which creates the element of interest within the image. 

This photo appears to have been edited. It looks very effective due to the wide range of colours that are in the flowers which are then on the dark background. This makes the colours stand out and be more eye-catching.

This image is effective due to the splash of colour on the black and white background. This makes the colours in the image very bold and striking and as a result, makes the viewers eye focus on the element of colour in the photo.

This image is effective due to the fact that the colours appear to be reflected in the water and the splashed droplets. The colours look especially effective due to the different shades which are present due to the fact that the colours are presented in the water and are also a product of reflection.
